The Global Tendency Machine, 1998

In 1998 Stockholm was elected cultural capital of Europe. Bigert & Bergström created a sculptural architecture nicknamed “The Cockroach” as part of the exhibition “The Global Tendency Machine”. A huge aluminum structure was parked in a train tunnel in the center of Stockholm. The audience was invited into the belly of the sculpture through two staircases. Inside, were projected films of interviews with different people discussing the future. Patrik Bratt directed the films, and the exhibition was an initiative of the Swedish design bureau Futurniture.
